As a South African Certified Lactation Consultant, she offered holistic care to mothers and babies needing breastfeeding support, combining her love for early intervention with lactation consulting in the NICU.
We asked Ali to share a little more about her with us and here's what she said!
What do you do at My Therapy Crew?
I’m a paediatric occupational therapist with a big heart for little humans. I support children and their families to build the skills they need to thrive in everyday life — whether that’s at school, home, or out in the community. I love working alongside families, educators, and other therapists to problem-solve together and celebrate even the smallest wins.
What is your superpower at work?
Seeing the potential in every child and helping them feel seen, safe, and successful — especially when things feel tricky. I’m calm in the chaos and always ready with a creative idea (or a fidget toy!).
Tell us a little more about you
I’ve been an OT for 16 years, with a special interest in early intervention, prematurity, and supporting children with complex needs. Before moving to Australia, I worked in a remedial school setting and as a Certified Lactation Consultant in the NICU — both roles that deeply shaped my passion for early development and nurturing strong foundations from the start. These days, I live by the sea, work with wonderful families, and still get teary when a child does something for the first time.
What is your favourite quote or motto?
“Connection before correction.” — L.R. Knost
What do you enjoy about working at My Therapy Crew?
The team! I feel so lucky to be part of a crew who genuinely care — about the kids we work with, and about each other. It’s a place full of laughter, learning, and lots of heart.
What is your go to snack?
Mixed nuts or crystallized ginger.
What's one thing we might not know about you?
I love scuba diving, veggie gardening, and birdwatching — and I’m slowly learning the names of all the local Australian birds after relocating from South Africa.
Can you speak or write in any languages other than English?
